Chennai, Sep 13: A court here has asked Bollywood star of yesteryears and MP Dharmendra and his actor son Sunny Deol to appear before it on October 11 in connection with a cheque dishonour case.
Metropolitan Magistrate (George Town) C Thirumagal ordered issuance of summons to the duo on a complaint by R Bhagavandoss Bajaj, proprietor of Sheela Enterprises and Associates.
Bajaj said that in April 2006, Sunny, on behalf of Sunny Sounds company, had borrowed Rs 10 lakh for completing the Hindi film 'Big Brother' on the promise that he would repay the amount after the movie's release.
Sunny had issued two cheques dated April 20, 2007 for Rs 5 lakh each in his capacity as director of the company. When the cheques were presented for payment, they were returned unpaid for the reason "payment stopped by the drawer".
Bajaj said he then sent a legal notice on June 6, 2007, to the directors of the company but there was no reply from them.
He contended that Sunny had issued the cheques and stopped the payment with an intention to cheat and defraud him.
