Mangaluru, Feb 9: Bajpe police have arrested a thief who used to steal at the houses of the neighbours where Roce functions were held in Bajpe area.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday February 9, police commissioner Chandra Sekhar said that the accused is Abdul Razak (45), a resident of Jarinagar in Bajpe.
Police arrested Abdul Razak at Kandavara hall in Kaikamba on late Monday February 8. Bajpe police also said that they have managed to seize 380 grams of gold from the accused. He has been involved in 6 cases as per the information available now. Police are still interrogating him.
As per reports, on January 23, four houses at Ambikanagar, Bajpe Kateel road, Polytechnic road and at Katte were targeted and valuables from all these houses were stolen. In all these cases, Roce functions were held nearby.
First it was construed that these incidents were independent thefts. But later it was learned that all these thefts took place when Roce functions were held in nearby places. All these thefts took place between 9 and 10 pm. In all the cases doors were broken to gain entry.
In another operation, the Pandeshwar police on Tuesday arrested an accused in connection to thefts that took place under the limits of Mangaluru south and Panambur police stations.
The accused has been identified as Mohammed Asif alias Aachi (24), a resident of Kasba Bengre.
The police also recovered two stolen two-wheeler and 95 kg of copper wires, altogether worth Rs 1,65,000, from the accused. The two-wheelers were stolen from near Central railway station on February 23, 2015 and from the Bunder port in May 2015, while the copper wires were stolen from Bharat Shipyard in Bengre.
Asif is accused in two cases in Bantwal town police station, a few cases in Ullal police station, and one each in Uppinangady and Panambur police stations. A warrant was issued against him after he failed to appear in court and went absconding. He is also accused in a theft at a stationery shop in Bunder.
The Pandeshwar police led by inspector Dinakar Shetty arrested Asif while checking vehicles at the stretch between Badriya junction and State Bank.
