Mangaluru: Sr Rose Celine elected superior general of Bethany Sisters

Mangaluru, Feb 11: Sr Rose Celine has been elected superior general of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, better known as Bethany Sisters.

She was elected during the ongoing XVI general chapter of the congregation, held at the Motherhouse, Bendore here on Thursday February 11.

Sr Rose Celine is the 10th superior general of Bethany congregation which was founded in 1921 by servant of God R F C Mascarenhas, a priest of Mangaluru diocese.

Sr Rose Celine succeeds Sr Wiberta, who was superior general of Bethany Sisters since March 2010. She has served as councilor to Sr Wilberta and has creditably coordinated the education ministry of the congregation.

The congregation also elected a team of four councilors to the superior general - Sr Lillis, Sr Shanti Priya, Sr Mariette and Sr Lilitta.

    I am happy to have studied with the sisters, trained by the former Generals, Mother Macrina, Mother Gemma, Sr. Agnella, Sr. Sylvine, Novice Mistress Sr. Esperie, Sr. Misericors, Superiors, Sr. Esuria for the unconditional love with which everyone led me towards what I am today. The foundation from my parents then teachers and the congregation can never be forgotten. I pray that all of you may carry forward the vision and mission of the Founder whom I have seen in Taccode when I was very small. The picture of him entering the Taccode old convent is very fresh in my memory.

    As per rules, there is election every six years for Mother Superior. One can have maximum 2 terms (12 Years) Predecessor of Sr. Wilberta, Sr. Jyoti was Mother Superior for 2 terms.
    There is no higher post. They will serve in any capacity since they have a vow of obedience. Sr Jyoti is now a Provincial.

    Congratulations to Sr. Rose Celine on her new assignment as Superior General of Bethany. Also nice to know that she has four Distinguished Councillors to assist her from now on.

    Where is Sr. Wilberta going from now? Is there any position above the Superior General? Sr. Wilberta has done a wonderful job and we thank her for all her worthy services.

    Bethany nuns and their Education that they rendered to me for three years from the year 1944 to 1947 is still well remembered and gratefully recollected. My foundation of Education I attribute to the Bethany Nuns, under the leadership of Sr.Lazarus who nurtured me and guided me that i wholeheartedly recollect and whisper a prayer of gratitude.

    Bethany nuns have blossomed well in Mangalore under the command of Monsgr. Monscarenhas. The Bethany nuns have placed tremendous trust in Monsgr. Mascarenhas, and the monument that they have created at their Convent at Bendore is extremely precious and hopefully the Bethany nuns will be blessed with their desires.
