Udupi, Feb 12: Chaos erupted at G Shankar Women's First Grade College in Ajjarkad here on Friday February 12 after a girl student was allegedly assaulted by the student leader, who is also a girl.
Navya Shetty, a student of final year BCom was allegedly assaulted by student leader Bhavya.
The college has become infamous for impending problems of late. For the past one month no classes have been held due to the agitation of guest lecturers. The students also supported this cause as their future was in limbo due to the problem. But this support also created two factions among students.
It is said that Navya was talking to Bhavya on Friday morning regarding the student support in the protest by the guest lecturers. The two argued over some issue, and in a fit of anger, Bhavya is said to have assaulted Navya and tore her uniform.
The students, who heard the assault news, protested outside the college. Karnataka Rakshana Vedike too joined in. Police personnel who arrived at the college promised to resolve the issue.
Some associations have demanded the transfer of the principal as the college has been witnessing problems every now and then. They have accused him of being indirectly responsible for the problems. They also said that a woman principal should be appointed instead of a male principal in the women’s college.
