Mangaluru, Feb 14: Mangala Charitable Trust has set up Mangala Academy of Medical Coaching, a one-of-its-kind institute in Mangaluru started with a vision to provide quality education to medical students, said Dr Ganapathi, chairman of Mangala Charitable Trust in a press meet here on Saturday February 13.

The Academy is the brainchild of Dr Ganapathi and Dr Singi Yatiraj, author of more than a dozen popular medical books.

Dr Ganapathi further said, "The Academy would be involved in imparting knowledge to medical students in simplified and examination-oriented approach. The faculty on board are postgraduates in their respective fields with experience of more than 5 years in teaching medical students. The coaching will be done at the 1,50,000 sq ft Mangala campus at Neermarga in a dedicated 15,000 sq ft air-conditioned room set up exclusively for this programme.

"It is observed that the first year of medical college is one of the toughest years for any student considering that students are totally new to the atmosphere of medical college and their teaching methods. To worsen their situation, the medical course is so designed that the student has to clear all the subjects in the final exam to enter the second year. This adds additional pressure on the students to excel. The subjects coming under the first year of medical college are basic sciences which form the foundation of their medical career but a student has to master these in a time frame of 8-9 months. Plans are afoot to extend the coaching for second, third and final year students too. We believe a strong basic knowledge is very essential to become a good doctor. And we wish to fill this gap and help a student to build a strong foundation for a better future," he said.

Dr Singi Yatiraj was also present at the press meet.
