Mangaluru, Feb 15: “Are you a small child or a youth of 21? I know your age well. You were born in 1940 and you are already 76. You said no need to attach importance to old people’s words. Then you do not have value and importance for your own words? And if your words are of no value, then why do you go for election campaigning?” said senior Congress leader Janardhan Poojary in Mangaluru on Sunday, February 14.
Poojary was making a direct reference to Chikkaballapur member of parliament Veerappa Moily.
Poojary was addressing a press meet at district Congress office which was called mainly to reply to Veerappa Moily who had made a statement on Friday saying there was no need to attach importance to the words of old people. Moily had made reference to S M Krishna and Janardhana Poojary who had criticized the state government led by Siddaramaiah.
“Everyone knows what people used to talk about Veerappa Moily. There is only one truth about Veerappa Moily in what he talks, that is he is really Veerappa Moily. Otherwise whatever else he says is a lie. This is what people still say about Moily’s truthfulness. I should not be provoked. There are many things I can say about Moily. But I will wait till the election is over.” Poojary added.
“Yes, I could not watch the present situation in the state. So I warned the chief minister. I told him to auction his wristwatch and donate the proceeds to the families of martyrs who died for the nation in Siachen. What was wrong in what I said? Has Moily decided to weaken the party?" Poojary said.
Poojary also defended the police in Dharwad who had arrested BJP leaders Prahlad Joshi and Jagadish Shettar on Saturday when the picketed the deputy commissioner’s office.
There is no Modi wave in Karnataka. BJP leaders who are afraid of defeat in elections are only saying that there is Modi wave, Poojary opined.
Talking about JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, Poojary said that everyone knows his character and he has not done any worthwhile thing for Coastal Karnataka so far.
Corporator Naveen D’Souza, Sarala Karkera, T K Sudheer were present in the press meet.
