Mangaluru, Feb 16: Central Sahitya Akademi has announced its list of annual awards for 2015. Veteran Kannada writer from the city, Na Damodar Shetty, has made the city proud by bagging an award.
Shetty has won translation award for his Kannada translation of Malayalam novel titled 'Kocharethi'. This work has been considered to be the best translation work of 2015. The executive board of the Akademi, which met at New Delhi on Monday February 15 chose 25 works from different languages for this year's awards.
The award comprises cash component of Rs 50,000 and copper plaque. Awards function is likely to be organized at New Delhi either in June or July.
Na Da Shetty retired after working as lecturer in St Aloysius College here. He has been a cultural and literary ambassador for the city.
Speaking about his commendable achievement, Shetty said that he has been involved with translation since the last three decades, and that winning this award was one of his aims of life. He said that he has been going through a feeling of fulfillment after coming to know about having been bestowed with this rare recognition.
