Mangaluru, Feb 17: Mega solar credit camp organised in order to finance solar rooftops was inaugurated by Lead Bank manager Raghav Yejamanya and deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim along with other dignitaries at Town Hall here on Wednesday February 17. The camp has been organized by the Dakshina Kannada district administration in association with NABARD, various banks and Mescom.

Addressing media persons, Raghav Yejamanya said, "It is a great opportunity to all the banks to be part of this project. About 12 banks have participated in this camp, out of which 8 are nationalized banks, 2 are private, one cooperative and one is regional. As many as 15 suppliers are showcasing their products.

"The process will be as follows - first the Mescom department will provide the feasibility certificate for the installation which will take two working days, thereafter the application for loan will be processed by the bank. All together, the whole process of installation will take about 11 days. Loans up to Rs one lac would be approved without any collateral whereas for loans above Rs one lac, the beneficiary has to provide a collateral. In case the beneficiary has mortgaged his property for housing loan then the same will be taken as the collateral. In case the beneficiary's property is not mortgaged, then government bonds, LIC, bank deposits or any other bonds will be taken as collateral," he explained.

Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said, "Installing solar rooftop is a very good proposition as the district has very high potential to produce solar power. On the other hand, one can contribute towards the environment by using green energy. It can also be taken as a business investment as the excess energy produced can be sold to Mescom at Rs 9.56 a unit."

MLC Ivan D'souza said, "I have already installed solar rooftop at my residence and 1,381 units of electricity was produced during the last month. My house consumes 740 units of electricity, and Mescom bought the rest of the units for about Rs 7,000. We aim to make Dakshina Kannada a solar energy district, for which I will ask the chief minister to take DK district under pilot programme by providing grants. I urge all the government and private institutions to install the panels at their campuses. From my MLC fund I have given grants to install solar panels to about 40 endosulphan-affected families."

Mescom’s apathy to the system is deplorable.I installed a 5KW solar power plant on my roof top. After the commissioning in Jan,2016 Mescom has not yet reached the location to read the meter & reimburse the amount against the units I have already exported to the Grid.If you are opting for batteries,do not go for it.They are not only expensive but they are not durable too.You may have to replace all of them within 3 years. The said price of 9.16 is true only for the first 3 years. They would be reviewed in near future.

Mind blowing idea by the banks to come together to promote solar rooftops in district. I hope it will be done without any red tape. I hope all other banks will participate in this project.

Push power to the grid during non-peak day time when power consumption is minimum. Draw power from the grid during peak night time when power consumption and load to the grid is maximum. Else, use storage batteries where damage due to lead is most lethal to living things. It is predicted that our next enemy is lead poisoning and resultant neurological complications.
This type of grid charging is like lending an umbrella in peak summer and ask it back when rains starts. As on date, we do not have real-time control mechanism on hydro-electricity generation based on the grid load. Who will say aloud the king is not dressed? Mr. Ivan D'Souza can promote this idea. That is why he is in politics.

Dear Sethu, Mangalore, Be broad minded yaar. Who said grid remains in low peak in the day time? Number of small scale industries work during day time and draw max power from grid than night time. For example, welding workshops, machinery work shop and fully occupied offices use maximum Air conditioner which uses lion share of the grid.

For your comment “real-time control mechanism” for your information, this system is available all over the world in the generating station, whether it is hydro, coal, Natural gad of Nuclear, but it will not put in to service in the modernized countries also due to danger of grid flotation's, and till date major load variation (Increase/decrease) done by telephonic communication from LDC to power generating station. However, minor grid correction for frequency and voltage is always automatically controlled by generation station Master Plant control System.

Ok you said no batteries day time you can generate power consume and export to grid .What about night time You have to import power from grid if no batteries . What is the use of putting solar Panels ?.

Dear All, People having deferent opinion for the solar energy. They are called by several terms. Here described only two types.
    1) Off grid solar system.

    2) On grid solar system.

Off grid solar system is standalone where there is no local electricity available and the electricity is totally depending upon solar. Here you can also install batter bank depend upon load and can have power during the night time. Battery bank is not mandatory but to have 24hrs power, batter bank is required
On grid solar system is subdivided by two types,

    1) it can be a standalone system directly connected to grid with one directional energy meter.

    2) It can be on the roof top connected to the grid by unidirectional energy meter. (It can be also having battery bank, but huge cost is involved.) During sunny day, surplus power generated by PV (Photovoltaic) will be transmitted to the grid. (Surplus=power generated by PV – power used by PV owner).
On grid solar system automatically synchronize with grid as soon as required voltage is build up in the system and grid is alive. If grid supply cut off, the system goes to shut down automatically as to safeguard and protect the grid by being back charging. There are number of service provider are available throughout Karnataka, but it shall be registered with MESCOM.M/S ORB energy is now a day very popular and have done number of project in the DK coastal area.
Life span of PV is 20Years with 90% efficiency and 25 years with 70~80% efficiency. But inverter life span is Max 5 ~7 years due to aging factor of electronic components and also wear and tear also shall be considered. The deadliest enemy to the inverter is the lighting strike. However with modern technology it can be reduced. (Installation of on line lightning surge arrestor)

Dear, There will not be any batteries now. This is grid connected i.e. excess power is exported to the grid. Net metering system is in place.

    Dear Kishore,
A Solar On-Grid system consists of the following components -
    1) Solar Panels
    2) On-Grid Inverter

Solar Panels come with a Performance Warranty(Pro-Rata) of 25 Years which means if the output performance of the panels fall below certain level the manufacturing company will provide warranty. In simple terms a good Solar panel does not spoil. Its performance decreases over time. For e.g. First 10 years performance will come down to 90-95%. Fifteen to twenty years performance will down to 85-90%.

Solar On-Grid Inverter: Most of the Inverter companies give a warranty of 5 Years. If properly installed with good earthing and safety measures the life of the inverter shall be good.

Batteries: There are Solar systems which use batteries(Solar Off-Grid systems). Solar Batteries(C10 rating) come with a REPLACEMENT warranty of 5 years. General life of Solar batteries will be near to 7-8 Years.

Somebody mentioned in the above post that battery life is 3 years. It is not true. Battery life does not degrade via Solar charging because battery stores Direct current(DC) and Solar panels too generate DC current.

Good initiative... D K gets plenty of energy from natural resources I had proposed this idea of using the Solar energy and wind energy, in the smart city competition.

Kochi has become Fully Solar Panelled Airport, So do Bajpe be the one as well

Let all the Government offices be installed by solar panels.

Then finally let it be on the common man to install in his houses. The Government must take steps with regard to this, thus we can not only save electricity for ourselves but also the future generations.

If a large number of people resort to Solar on rooftops, the grid economics becomes unworkable. This has already happened in the United States where in some states the grid power suppliers have succeeded in getting a higher rate for their supply to counterbalance what they receive from the solar.

How would MESCOM survive selling energy at Rs. 4 per unit and buying energy at Rs. 9.5 per unit?

Please note that buying rate is for next 25 years @9.5
Initially its more than selling price but on a long run, when you will be paying Rs.20 per unit, you would still get Rs.9.50.
    How's the logic?
