Mangalore, Sep 18: The Central Areca and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative (CAMPCO), a joint venture between Karnataka and Kerala governments and growers, now has a lac members on its rolls, which is said to be a record for any cooperative in the country.
Speaking to the media, CAMPCO chairman S R Rangamurthy has said that the organization has been making endevours to protect the growers from the effects of areca import and manipulations of tax-evading traders. He added that CAMPCO has made a net profit of Rs 271 lac.
The annual meeting of members is scheduled for September 20. The cooperative runs a chocolate factory at Puttur, which is believed to be the largest in the whole of Asia.
