Panaji, Sep 18: Hail Goans for their real spirit of communal harmony. The rest of India perhaps needs to learn from Goa how to live peacefully.

The current incident is of desecration of Lord Ganesh idol at Bambolim. Some miscreants or maybe anti social elements, desecrated Lord Ganesh Idol at Bambolim on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi.

For Goans, especially Hindus, Ganesh Chaturthi is a big festival. It’s bigger than Diwali. And Lord Ganesh, God of wisdom, is worshipped in almost all the households for ten days or less than that, during the festival.

Goa wears a beautiful look with people from all religions participating in the festivities. It’s real homecoming for many as people desert cities and go back to their native places.

On such an auspicious occasion, Ganesh idol was desecrated at Bambolim. In any normal circumstances, fanatics would have taken utter advantage of this and made good their agenda to unleash hatred amongst people.

But thankfully and fortunately, Goans maintained calm. The issue figured in the newspapers prominently next day but, thankfully again, people maintained the harmony.

The silence and harmonious behaviour by people is a lesson for whoever  desecrated the idol. If he had done it with an aim to create disharmony in the state, then he has miserably failed.

It’s a matter of shame for those anti social elements. That’s why, we can rightfully say, we are proud to be Goans who have maintained their harmony intact. May Lord Ganesh give strength to everyone to remain united and fight such evil forces.
