Mangaluru, Feb 19: Rupith D'Souza, a student from St Aloysius High School and a cadet of NCC air wing of the city, took part in the Republic Day Parade recently in New Delhi, where he received the best air cadet honour. He was the only high school cadet from NCC air wing from Karnataka and Goa directorate to participate in the Republic Day celebrations.

This was revealed in a press meet here on Friday February 19.

Also, as a talented keyboard artiste, Rupith had the rare opportunity to play the keyboard at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 27.

Moreover, he was one of the only two high school students selected for the keyboard playing competition in Delhi. He thus got an opportunity to play the keyboard at the residences of air chief marshal Arup Raha and admiral R K Dhawan.

Rupith D'Souza studies in standard IX at St Aloysius High School. He had joined the school in the year 2014-15 and also enrolled himself to the NCC air wing of the school. Rupith is a state and national-level athlete. He secured the second place in the 400 meters race conducted by the education department and qualified for the nationals. As a keyboard player, he passed with distinction in the 6th grade exam conducted by London Trinity of Music. In August in 2015, Rupith participated in the ATC training of NCC at Moodbidri. in September, he participated in the RDC I training at Brahmavar and got selected for higher training. In the month of October he participated in RDC-2 and got selected for RDC -3 at Mysuru. Thus he was selected for 30-day training camp at Bengaluru. After giving exceptional performance at Bengaluru too, Rupith was selected to take part in the Republic Day Parade this year in New Delhi.

Rupith also got an opportunity to take part in fellowship meal organized at the residences of the governor of Karnataka, Vajubhai Vala and also at the residence of chief minister Siddaramaiah.

Headmaster of St Aloysius High School Fr Edward Rodrigues, Rupith's mother Preethi D'Souza, and the NCC officer of St Aloysius High School air wing Sunil Rohan were present in the press meet.

Congratulations Rupith. Reminds me of my school and college days at St.Aloysius. I had the privilege to attend the RDC way back in 1989 as a Best Cadet from Air Wing Senior Division (Karnataka & Goa Directorate)and personally know how difficult it is to achieve this. It is no mean achievement..
