Moodbidri, Sep 18: Mithr-Daiz literary workshop was held at St Thomas Higher Primary School Hall, Alangar here on Sunday September 16

Inaugurating the workshop Fr Mark Walder said “No one can change the society unless he changes himself.”

He strongly objected people who recently compared Konkani literature to cow dung. He said “There are pearls in Konkani literature of Kannada script. Konkani language will one day become one of the great literary languages. We have enough number of literary stalwarts who produce quality literature" he added.

“While some people write for the sake of sharing knowledge with others, there are some who write for their own satisfaction and there are some who pledge that they write for changing the society,” said Fr Mark.

Fr Vincent D'Souza presided over the inaugural session. Dr Edward Nazareth was the chief guest. Vally Vagga was the guest of honour. Donor Lancy Madtha, organizers Wally Quadrss and Lloyd Austin Rego were also present on the dais. Raymond Taccode compered the programme.

In the morning session, speaking about the literature Stephen Quadrss said that literature was of God centered before 200 AD. Later it became King centric. Then the literature came of questioning authorities. Once again the literature of praises got much importance. At last came the literature of prosperity, revolution etc.

Dr Edward explained the various methods of writing and the techniques used to get ideas to write. Joy Paladka moderated the question-answer session.

In the next session Edwin JF D’Souza spoke about the short stories. He explained ashow big a short story can be, what is the sequence for the short story writing and how it is different from the novel.

He said that reading and learning is an ongoing process for a literary person to bring out the quality literature.

Later Henry M Pernal spoke on poetry part. Titus Noronha and Ancy Paladka moderated the poetry session. Avina Miyar, Vally Vagga, Richie Pereira Derebail, Elyer Taccode, Melvyn Pernal, Bhottam Boliye, Gladys Rego, Eddie Quadros Taccode, Arun Ajekar, Catherine Rodrigues, Wilson Kateel, H M Pernal, Wilfred Lobo Padil, Clement Taccode and Eddie Serrao participated in the poetry session.

Salvadore Rodrigues Paladka, Hilary Cardoza Paladka and Hilary Rego Taccode were specially honoured for the significant contribution for the Konkani literature. Other writers of Moodbidri deanery were also honoured during this occasion.

Lancy Madtha, Henry M Pernal, Ancy Paladka, Jerry Kulshekar, Vally Vagga, Fr Francis Rodrigues and Panchu Bantwal released eight books of Ashawadi Prakashan during this occasion. The released books are Addosantli Fulam, Atvya Rongacho donn, Shimpodleli Motyam,  Mukam Patlim Rupaam,  Mollba Voyli Sopnna, Kulkulo, Tinterant Pinturaam and Kallok Natul'lo Ganv. Violet Pereira introduced the books.

“Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, apart from working for the other fields of Konkani, is also working for the upliftment of literature” said president of the academy Eric Ozario.

He was the president of the concluding session. He also distributed various literary prizes of Daiz.com. Henry M Pernal won the poet of the year award. Raknno editor Fr Francis Rodrigues was the chief guest of the concluding session. He delivered fabulous poetic speech during this occasion. Well-known writers Fr Vincent D’Souza, Jerry Kulshekar, Pascal Pinto and Elias Sanctis were present during this occasion. Melvyn M Pernal compered the concluding session.

Elyer Taccode welcomed the gathering and Vally Quadros proposed the vote of thanks.
