Mangalore, Sep 20: The election watch committee of the city, on Wednesday September 19 here, urged the voters to take some precautionary measures so as to reap the total benefits of elections in true sense and avail themselves of the facilities from candidates without any hindrance.
Committee convener Kalladi Balakrishna Rai informed mediapersons that the committee would ask for plastic-free election, ask the candidates not to spend more money than required for poll campaign and to draw their plan of action in the form of pamphlets and distribute them to the voters/electorates before the elections.
Talks have been held with major political parties during the meeting held recently, as not to use plastic in election campaigns, and besides limit the expenditure to the ceiling fixed by the election commissioner.
A few political parties, unaware of the decision taken by the committee because of the removal of the notice from the notice board, are likely to use plastic for campaigning material. The committee expects full cooperation from citizens and political parties to implement the decision.
The candidates should give responsible promises regarding road, water, tax and other important issues. Every candidate should clearly state how they will serve their wards. The committee has prepared pamphlets for voters as to what they are to ask the candidates when they come to their doors to seek votes.
It is the responsibility and duty of Corporator to see that the services like roads and water supply are proper and satisfactory. Voters must warn the candidates that they would have to resign, should they fail to discharge their duties.
The committee also advised the voters to seek clarifications from the candidates, regarding the overall development of the ward, their plans for the betterment of the voters, improve the pathetic condition of roads across Mangalore, possibility of revision of taxes in the next five years and so on.
The committee also suggested whether the city would get drinking water every day, how many hours water will be supplied to the city and whether the garbage collected free of cost.
The candidates would be allowed the time-frame to fulfil their promises. Their resignation will be demanded if they fail to do so. the convener urged.
