Kundapur, Sep 23: The helicopter carrying Karnataka's deputy chief minister B S Yediyurappa made a forced landing to land near a petrol filling station at Halkal near here on Saturday.
Yediyurappa was on his way to Shri Kollur Mookambika temple and was scheduled to land on the helipad at Shirur. But, because of poor signal system, the pilot was had to land it at Halkal.
It may be recalled here that Halkal is considered a Naxal-sensitive area.
A Congress leader from Kollur, Ramesh Ganiga, who happened to pass by the way, came to the dyCM's rescue and drove him to Kollur in his car, setting aside party affiliations.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Kollur temple precincts, Yediyurappa said that it was Kollur Shri Mookambika who saved the helicopter and its inmates. At the temple, he offered special poojas and prayers in the company of his three daughters and two sons.
