Mangaluru, Mar 8: The police department in Dakshina Kannada district is not happy with the increase in numbers of missing complaints registered at police stations in the district in the recent past. Most of the cases registered remaining unsolved, has become the biggest headache for the police department.
A total number of 366 missing complaints were lodged from 2014 to 2016. While deaths were reported in some cases,, most cases have remained mysteries to date with the police failing to make any breakthrough. 172 cases in 2014, 178 cases in 2015 and 16 cases in 2016 (Only two months) have been filed from various places of the district. Success rate in solving these cases is not satisfactory. For example, only 3 cases were solved in 2015.
In all these three years (2014 to 2016), most of the missing persons are youngsters. Mostly they were reported missing from colleges where they had gone for studies, or from workplace or when the just walked out from the houses they stayed. 95 cases in 2014, 94 cases in 2015 and 7 cases in 2016 are related to the youth from age category below 30 in the missing complaints registered in the district.
Police department has taken these facts seriously, sources said.
