Mangaluru: Padil-Pumpwell road concreting - One-way results in heavy traffic

Mangaluru, Mar 10: Traffic jam is a common thing in Mangaluru city. People are so used to it that they have stopped complaining about it. But what you are going to see from now on is a greater traffic jam, worse than you have been experiencing to date.

The traffic police in city have decided to make Padil-Pumpwell stretch one way to facilitate the concreting work there. From Thursday March 10, only the vehicles coming from BC Road side can use the Padil-Alape-Naguri-Capitanio route. Vehicles going towards BC road from Pumpwell circle are advised to use Nanthoor-Bikarnakatta-Maroli-Kaikamba-Padil route. Looks easy, but it is not. Nanthoor area has already become infamous for its daily traffic jams. It is going to get worse.

The impact was immediate, as major junctions along the route were chocked with heavy traffic right from Monday morning until almost noon. Heavy traffic was witnessed from Kankanady to Pumpwell, Thokkottu to Pumpwell, Padil to Pumpwell and Nanthoor junction. Office-goers and students were much inconvenienced.

It should be borne in mind that Nanthoor circle is where vehicles coming from Moodbidri, Udupi, Mangaluru city and Pumpwell sides converge. To make the matters worse, Kadri-Nanthoor road has been dug up for concreting purpose.

It is going to be a bad summer for commuters as well as for traffic police. Here's hoping the work is completed soon and the road is ready before the onset of monsoons.

    The work on nanthoor-kadri road should have been finished before starting this road.Two important roads closed at same time.Bad management.

    concetring really will b helpful in future. . roads wud b clean. . since DC office l b shifted to padil we can expect huge traffic in future in that route.. They shld complete the work soon to avoid more traffic in future other wise it wud b worse..

    This will teach arrogant Mangalorean how to control their anger and how much patience they have. In big cities like Mumbai People have lot of patience. Some time for half half journey it takes four hours.

    The Sarkar is not BEVAKOOF. Those who are in Sarkaar they are bevakoofs.
    Development works like concreting roads, formation of drains, footpaths etc should go on. But the works should be completed within the time stipulated in the agreement. The works should not be dragged years together. So speed up the work to avoid inconvenience to public.

    Development is always comes with the package of inconvenience. The way works in Mangalore are geared up need to be noted and appreciated. Foot paths,rain water canals and concreting the main Roads are visible everywhere. I wish and pray that all these works are completed on time without delay, without disturbing the commuters from the routine.
    While working on new projects please complete the old ones on time.

    Breath carbon dioxide
    Eat dust and impurities in the air
    Enjoy ear deafening honking of vehicles
    Pity on commuters, Residents and shop owners
    At least such work could have been carried out after peak hours or during night time. Seems like no body is bother about any body. Just ute the job.
    A junction where traffic meets from Kerala and State highway.
    Commotion, irritation, frustration and job execution.

    Add to this pollution from gensets when electricity stops flowing from all commercial shops on to the road & commuters has no other option but to breathe in toxic mixture of chemicals let out by vehicles mixed with genset exhausts too.

    If the contractor can use machanised way of concreting and do the work at night it will not disturb the commuters so badly.This kind of manual way of doing work will take time and delay the work and also bothersome to every one. Look at the other countries how they do without disturbance to public.

    Where ever and whenever there are development works taking place, inconvenience is bound to occur. There is more than 2 months time for monsoons to start and hope the work is done fast. Just recollect the infrastructure Mangalore had a couple of years ago. Observe the developments taking place in the past 2 years : The roads, park, garbage collection, footpath work (started) etc etc. Let us appreciate the numerous works undertaken with proper follow up by our present MLA Mr J.R. Lobo.
    No individual can make changes overnight. Lets appreciate and encourage him.

    While the Road works have to go on,we the Motorists should follow the Lane discipline which will certainly ease the Traffic flow.It is only when we break lanes that these jams occur.
    The Police should Barricade One or Two lanes for Traffic to move to Bikarnakatte Road.

    One more problem created for kadri, nanthoor, bikarnakatte road. Always here traffic jam and accident zone area. If they done fly over to nanthoor cross little problem will be solved.
