Young Farmer commits suicide after tractor seizure by bank

Ariyalur (TN), Mar 13, 2016, (PTI): Days after a farmer was beaten up by police in Tamil Nadu over non-payment of loan, a young farmer in the state committed suicide after officials of a private finance firm seized his tractor to recover Rs 2 lakh dues and allegedly insulted and abused him.

Arumugam (26) of Orathur had taken a Rs 7 lakh loan from the firm to purchase a tractor. He had repaid Rs five lakh and the balance was pending, police said.

Firm officials came to his house on March 10 and allegedly abused and insulted him in front of villagers, besides seizing his tractor, they said.

Some unidentified persons later attacked Arumugam, police added.
Ashamed and frustrated at the treatment meted out to him, he consumed poison and fell unconscious. He was rushed to a Primary Health Centre at Keezhapavur by his relatives, where he died without responding to treatment around midnight.

Police said action would be taken against those involved.

The incident comes close on heels of the alleged assault of another farmer, Balan, of Thanjavur district by police over non-payment of loans worth Rs 3.8 lakh.

A video of the incident had gone viral following which NHRC had issued notices to the Chief Secretary and DGP, Government of Tamil Nadu, seeking reports within two weeks on the matter.

    Dear Vinay, mangalore
    Dear Amigo Mangalore,

The cow Government allowed a free hand to run-out of India on Humanitarian grounds.

    Karnataka-dha SupuThra.
    KingFisheralli illa nanna Paathra.

The Banks have to give Loans to anybody willing to take the loans on conditions put forward by the banks.

However the government should not allow to run-out from the country without paying the debt.

    HUMANITARIAN GROUNDS.

While giving loan to the farmers, the banks need to inject the culture of repayment of loan and periodically involve in recovering the loan given out of the agricultural income.Lack of proper follow up make the good loan into bad

Malya has not defaulted. Its KFA which defaulted, where Malya holds some shares and had a post of Chairman.
If the company makes profits, all the shareholders will get the dividend. If there are losses why blame only Malya?

Why did the banks lend so much money to Mallya in the first place?? What was the collateral and what sort of due diligence did the banks carry out before lending such huge amount to KFA?? The banks are more guilty than Mallya.

Who cares for poor farmers ? At last they are not the class who travel in air. Our society is logically so imbalanced that if someone dies in air crash he will get 1 crore. But if in road accident just 5 lac.

These dirty banks are double standard mentality, They give loan to country looters, liquor barons and give enough chance to escape from the country. But in case of poor man, they don't give him second chance to come up from his debts, they seize their property immediately.

The Ambanies have taken crores of loans. Did they repaid.

The poor farmers are targets for a few lakhs of rupees.

Bank Managers have given loans where there are no firms at all.

These Bank managers have made many flats and houses from the corrupt money. Sanctioning the loans and taking money from under ground.

There are many proofs I have come across and noticed. Unfortunately cannot disclose names here in the public websites. One Manager had died of heart attack after making crores of loss to the Bank.

There are honest Bank Managers also. Not all Bank Managers are bad.
