Udupi, Mar 14: "Udupi district is set to get Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) buses to improve mobility by the end of this month or by the first week of April," informed DC R Vishal in a press meet at Atal Bihari Vajpayee auditorium here on Monday March 14.
"The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has decided to install bus stands and depots in three places to facilitate the JNNURM buses. A tender has been called to construct bus stand in the place of BO office and at Mudanidambur," he said.
"The RTA has conducted ten meetings since November 11, 2014 and 656 petitions were received on different subjects relating to approving licenses for bus facilities for rural and urban regions," he added.
"The national highway work at Padubudri and flyover work are nearing completion. The district administration has discussed the matter with union transport minister regarding the new bus facility. The present depot functioning at Nittur will continue. All in all, the RTA is concentrating on road development," he said.
The DC also chaired a meeting on road safety where members from NHAI and PWD along with locals were present.
During the meeting, commuters demanded installation of feeders at curves, reflectors on national highway and speed control for vehicles.
DC Vishal also received complaints on unofficial rickshaw stands which the locals claimed are increasing gradually. He asked CMC officials to issue notices to all unauthorized stands.
