Bantwal, Mar 14: In a sad incident, a lecturer who had been accused of sexually harassing a girl student in a college at Vamanjoor more than a year ago, ended his life by hanging late night on Monday, March 14.

The deceased, Harish Acharya from Bantwal, had been a lecturer in Kannada at Raymond's College in Vamanjoor.

A sexual harassment case was registered against Harish Acharya a year back. Thereafter, he had gone missing and students of the college staged a strong protest. At the same time, the management as well as a group of students had defended him saying that he was a disciplined teacher who was not liked by some students as he was strict. The matter was closed and Harish was not arrested.

But the allegations left a deep impact on Harish. He was depressed ever since the complaint was lodged. He had also taken treatment for the same at Manipal hospital. It is believed that he must have taken the drastic decision as he was disillusioned with life.

Harish was unmarried and lived with his brother at Kalladka. He hanged himself when nobody was at home, sources said.

Bantwal police rushed to the spot and registered a case.

It is very sad to note the drastic end of Sir Harish! God and the responsible sources knew that Harish was innocent. Today Law protects and safeguards women, hence this death is a sign to show that when media and police are sided by the powerful ABVP and 'the girl', the innocent has no way out except suicide as it happened in the case of Harish. It is not right that the innocent will not have power to prove themselves right in the court of Law. the public should join hands and fight together when such incidents take place around us. RIP to Harish and consolations to his brother and his bereaving family members!

Its very difficult to face the society when such a accusation is made. Media always jumps the gun even before the case is investigated by police. Its unfortunate and sad that he has taken the extreme step as people surrounding him have left no option for him. SHAME ON ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE for his death. May his soul rest in peace.

    Rip sir..

very saddened, he seems to be a gem. But I feel ABVP must come forward and at least apologies. They are the one who messed up an otherwise ordinary case or a foul cry.

You may be biggest student union in the world, you might have done 100 right things to student community, but one death of an innocent is highly condemnable and not forgivable. It shows you have useless or criminals in the local leadership who don't know they have to listen to both sides before racking up an issue of this nature. Ashamed

Check National Crime Records Bureau ( NCRB ) , almost 90 percent rape cases are false . High courts have already has given curriculum regarding this , last fiscal year the conviction percentage in karnataka under IPC 376 is again zero . Its very shocking and shows ugly under belly of corrupt police , gynocentric judiciary , biased law and selfish / vile women working like a MAFIA . After propaganda of nirbaya case , Indian evidence act is amended and made extremely anti men , just a verbal statement is enough to file FIR and accused is already a criminal even though he is innocent . Media works like stooges of feminist organisations , showing side of story .

Recently there were rapes on rickshaw drivers by gang of women using sedatives , and we should thank Sony crime patrol for telecasting this . As such cases piling up , the cry for gender neutral laws is getting louder and louder .All I can say is rest in peace with this young soul . An innocent soul should find justice at least in after life . Times are bad for men , but needs to put a brave fight amidst misandry society . Face courts / jail but never give up life .

The effect of his suicide may prompt her (if she framed) to go in a similar state of mind. (Depression) but we do not want another suicide. Keep a watch.
Since he was innocent he suffered mental depression. Real culprit would have absconded.

It is good that College Management stood in favour of him.

By the by, the neighbours where he stayed also speak about a financial fraud in which he invested his gold lost un returned....(God only knows the truth). This may be the reason for extreme step and not the college issue as he knows he was not guilty but made scape goat...

If he is innocent also this present world believes in woman. If one man is successful surely behind him there is a woman and if he defeats also behind there is woman. Whatever it may be he should not have committed suicide. However his soul will not rest until and unless those who responsible for his depression shall see the same fate.

    RIP Harish
I think the Police should go deeper in this case and find who accused him of sexual harassment. Did he really do that or he was framed to take revenge! Unfortunately, our women folk can easily frame any innocent man as a molester and no one can do anything about it, as it is almost impossible to prove and find the truth. If an innocent life is taken due to framing, I am sure the student/s who framed him will get their reward from God in this world itself. As they say, God sees the truth but waits!

A lecturer, liked by many but accused by just one. Does this say something ? Well, suicide is not a solution for any problem but the disgrace that he was subjected to, may be too much to continue living. RIP Harish Acharya.

Now, the ABVP and the girl should come out with truth.
