Mangaluru, Mar 16: The Wenlock district hospital here has bagged second spot in the prestigious 'Kayakalpa (rejuvenation)' awards instituted by the central government for excellence by hospitals in all departments. A release said that superintendent of the hospital, Dr Rajeshwari Devi H R, will be receiving the award from the union health minister at a function being held at New Delhi on Tuesday March 16.
The above award has been instituted under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, covering all the district hospitals in the country. The 'Kayakalpa' scheme had been implemented in 20 district hospitals in the state during the year 2015-16. District level Kayakalpa award nomination committee headed by the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district had been formed as per requirement.
An internal 'Kayakalpa' committee with representatives from all the departments of the hospital including medical officers and administrative functionaries was formed in Wenlock Hospital in a bid to achieve excellence of operations towards bagging this award. Initially, the committee made efforts to get highest marks in the evaluation process towards staking claiming for the above award.
In the second stage, an intra-district evaluation committee visited the hospital secretly without prior intimation to check the facts. At this stage, the hospital continued to retain the first place.
On the basis of the repot submitted by this committee, the state level external evaluation committee paid surprise visit to the hospital on September 28, 2015, and after verifying the functioning of all the departments, submitted its report to National Arogya Abhiyan Committee. The state level evaluation committee however, reduced two marks in its evaluation report on the working of Wenlock Hospital, citing that the hospital functions from an old building. As such, the hospital had to be satisfied with second spot, the release stated.
