Udupi, Sep 27: Geeta Prabhu of Bhairampalli has been elected as the 8th president of Udupi taluk panchayat on Wednesday September 26. She has identified herself in the group of K Jayaprakash Hegde, MLA of Brahmavar.

At the same time, Bhagyalakshmi S M of Haradi has been elected as the 8th vice-president of Udupi taluk panchayat. Among 41 taluk panchayat members 17 belong to BJP, 15 are from Congress and 9 are independent candidates.

But the Congress has been successful in running the government with the support of independent members. During elections Geeta Prabhu got 24 votes and Neeta Guraraj Poojari of BJP got only 16 votes. One member from BJP was absent during election. The vice-president Bhagyalakshmi was elected unanimously.

Assistant commissioner Ramesh K N officiated the election. Taluk panchayat executive officer Ramanand Nayak was present on this occasion.

Geeeta Prabhu, resident Perdoor Dupadakatte is educated only till SSLC. Her husband Ganapathi Prabhu is owner of cashew factory here. Vice-president Bhagyalakshmi has completed BA first year and also got diploma in education. She is the resident of Salikeri in Varamballi village near Brahmavar.
