Chikkamagaluru, Mar 19: A villager, who had gone into the forest searching for his missing cattle was killed by a bullet fired by unknown persons. The incident occurred at a place called Ujjini Karadikhan near Balehonnur on Thursday March 17 evening.

Siddalinga Shetty (55) from Ujjini Karadikhan lost his life on account of a stray bullet. As his cows left for grazing in the morning had not returned to their shed till late evening on Thursday, Shetty had gone in search of them. When he was moving around the forest searching for his cattle, he was hit by a bullet. He fell down, letting out loud cry, and lost his life on the spot.

People who were a little distance away came rushing after hearing his cry. But by then he had breathed his last.

It is presumed that someone who had come to the forest to hunt wild animals would have fired at Shetty due to mistaken notion. A case stands filed in Balehonnur police station about the incident.
