Kundapur, Mar 19: A home-alone elderly man was found murdered at Navunda here on Saturday March 18.
The deceased has been identified as Madhava Poojary alias Masti (62), a resident of Paduvai House in Navunda. He was living alone in his house since the last three years.
His wife lives in Mumbai. One of his daughters, who resides at Chamarajanagara had started to her native place on Friday night along with husband and children. Madhava Poojary had called his son-in-law over cellphone on Friday night, to invite the couple and their children for breakfast at his home.
When his daughter reached home with husband and children on Saturday morning, they found that the door of the house was locked from inside. Growing suspicious, as Poojary did not respond to their knocks, they broke open the door and found that Poojary had been murdered.
The murderers had entered the house by breaking open the rear door, It is suspected that they robbed jewellery stored in the cupboard. The family had booked tickets to go to Mumbai on Monday.
Poojary was found lying outside the bathroom of his house in a pool of blood. His head bore injury marks indicating that he might have been struck with sharp objects. A ladies purse with keys of the cupboard was found to have been tossed into the well located in front of the house.
Poojary has left behind his wife, who lives with his son at Mumbai, and two daughters, Pratibha and Praeela, who live at Mysuru. A murder case was registered in Byndoor station about this incident. Sniffer dogs scouted the area for clues. Finger print experts also visited the spot.
District superintendent of police, Annamalai, visited the spot and guided investigation.
