Udupi: Mahila Cong Samiti holds Women’s Day celebration

Udupi, Mar 19: Udupi Zilla Mahila Congress Samiti organized ‘World Women’s Day’ and ‘Chintana –Manthana’ celebration at Congress Bhavan, Brahmagiri on Saturday, March 19.

MLC Pratapchandra Shetty inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Pramod Madhwaraj said, “Congress party has given power to women. Women have proved that they are not less than men by contesting in large number in the local body election. Women have administration skills in their blood.”

“Congress party has supported many poor families. Nearly 12, 000 BPL cards have been distributed in a short period with the recommendation of MLA.”

“I am committed to women empowerment of the district. I wish every woman becomes like Indira Gandhi and be an inspiration to all,” he added.

MLC Pratapchandra Shetty said, “The defeat in the election was unexpected. A politician must use his power given by the government for public service. The political power should be controlled by law or else the entire power system will be saffronized.”

All zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat Mahila candidates were felicitated on the occasion.

Jyothi Hebbar delivered the key note address and welcomed the gathering.

Veronic Carnelio, district president, Mahila Congress, Udupi, Gopi Nayka, Amrit Shenoy, Sarala Kanchan, Roshini Olevera, Sunitha Shetty and others were present.
