Mangaluru: Bike rider killed in hit-and-run accident

Mangaluru, Mar 21: In an accident which occurred near Pavanje temple near Haleangady in the taluk on national highway 66 around Saturday midnight, a youth lost his life. In this case, the vehicle which knocked down the motor bike the youth was riding sped away without caring to stop.

Akshay Poojary (22), a resident of Kanchinadka near Padubidri, died in this accident. Poojary was an electrician by profession. He was returning home after attending to lighting job for a Mahndi programme relating to marriage function at Katipalla, when tragedy struck.

In this accident involving an unidentified vehicle, Akshay fell down and suffered serious injuries to his head and legs. Although arrangements were made to take him to hospital without delay, he had died before anything could be done to save him.

Akshay, it is gathered, was the only son of his parents. His father is no more, and his mother ekes out a living out of bidi rolling. A case about the accident was registered in the city (north) traffic police station, and the police personnel have begun investigation.
