Mangalore: Fr Muller Medical College Observes World Heart Day

Mangalore, Sep 30: Fr Muller Medical College (FMMC), department of Cardiology observed World Heart Day, on Sunday September 30, at Fr Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH), in the city.

Ashit Mohan Prasad, Inspector General of Police, Western Range, was the chief guest. Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu, Vicar General, Mangalore diocese, presided over the function.

Fr Denis D'sa, delivered the key note address while emphasizing on 3 A’s, namely, Awareness, Analysis and Action, that inspired FMMC to observe ‘World Heart Day’.  Dr Prabhakar, head of department of Cardiology, in his introductory speech laid stress on creating awareness on healthy hearts. Besides the significance of observing ‘World Heart Day’, owing to the rise in heart disease cases across the country.




Ashit Mohan Prasad, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Western Range, Mangalore, in his presidential address said that, healthy living like morning walks are advised to maintain good vascular system. Moreover the stress on the life of IT, BPO professionals have caused increase in heart attack cases, since they work without fixed schedules.

Msgnr Fr Denis Moras Prabhu, Vicar General of Mangalore diocese and vice president of Fr Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), was the guest of honor, said that he encouraged FMMC’s endeavor to educate the public by organizing a week’s heart check up camp which is one of its kind held for the first time in the country.





Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of FMCI in his address said that patient care has been more preventive than curative at FMMC while it would organize public awareness programmes, heart check up camps, live TV programmes in the local channels and programmes in All India Radio in the coming week, besides offer subsidized treatment for the poor and needy patients. Dr B Sanjeev Rai, Dean and Dr H Prabhakar, head of department of Cardiology, were also present.
 
Dr Alfred Farais, associate professor, dept of Cardiology proposed the vote of thanks.
A state level cardiology quiz competition ‘Cardio-Quest’ was organized on Saturday September 29, here at FMMC, attended by 11 colleges from across Karnataka.  K S Hegde Medical College bagged the first cash award of Rs 5 thousand and A J Hospital bagged the second cash award of Rs 3 thousand.
