Stranded Indians return from Brussels

New Delhi, March 26 (DHNS): Jet Airways on Friday flew back 242 Indians, who were stranded in Brussels following terror strikes, to the country as it started operations from Amsterdam.

Flight 9W 1229 from Amsterdam first landed in Delhi and then headed to Mumbai, ferrying passengers who were bound for the western metropolis.

Jet’s flight for Mumbai (9W 1227) was cancelled at the last minute owing to technical problems but the airline managed to get the Mumbai-bound passengers in the Delhi flight, which was later extended to the western city.

“The flight 9W 1229 carrying 214 passengers, including 69 bound for Mumbai, along with 28 Jet Airways crew members landed at IGI airport at 5.10 am,” Jet Airways said in a statement.

Flights operated
The airline also operated two flights from Amsterdam to Toronto on Thursday and to New York on Friday.

Jet Airways also tweeted “thank you” to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, the Civil Aviation Ministry, Indian Embassy in Brussels and others. Passengers were much relieved as they touched down in India.

Ordeal

“I was coming from Toronto and as soon as we arrived at the airport and reached the arrival bay, within 15 minutes, they were asking us to evacuate as soon as possible. We had no idea what had happened,” a woman passenger said.

Narrating the situation, she said she saw hundreds of passengers running out with their baggages.
“From there, we found out that there were three blasts,” she added.

Another passenger said the blast occurred in the departure area of the airport as soon as their flight landed. “They took all of us out and we remained stranded there for quite some time,” he said.
