Four, including officer and family, killed in accident at Yellapur

Bhatkal, Mar 27: Four persons including an officer were killed after the car in which they were travelling rammed into a tree near Kiravatti village in Yellapur taluk on Saturday March 26.

The deceased have been identified as Dattatray A Bansod, commissioner of Maharashtra State Information Commission in Amravati, his wife Alka Dattatray, son Pankaj and driver Rahul, also from Amravati.

The couple's daughter Sneha who was also in the car sustained serious injuries and was taken to Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) hospital in Hubballi and then shifted to SMD Hospital in Dharwad on Sunday March 27. Her condition is said to be critical.

It is learnt that the family was travelling in a Swift car from Kumta to Maharashtra via Hubballi when the driver reportedly lost control of the car and rammed into a roadside tree. The impact was such that Dattatray and driver Rahul were killed on the spot, while Alka breathed her last on the way to hospital and Pankaj passed away a little later in the hospital.

Uttar Kannada SP Onshi Krishna visited Yellapur hospital and gathered information about the accident. Yellapur MLA Shivaram Hebbar also visited the hospital.

A case has been registered in Yellapur police station.

    A very sad and deadly tragic accident. May their souls rest in eternal peace and pray for a speedy recovery of the lonely survived passenger Sneha. It seems the driver fell asleep on wheels and lost control of the car.

    Dont buy paper thin Maruti cars. Please buy cars with airbags and ABS. Wear seatbelt.Follow traffic rules, lane discipline etc

    now a days possession of vehicle is pride for some. I am a retired man. I have money to purchase a car. many telling me to buy car. but still i am going to church by walking, for market walking, and for an evening walk as well. thank god I am still healthy and free from any ailments.

    I agree with you Sir. For few cars have become more important and pride than a house. While driving in new roads it is better to follow a vehicle or some bus who are aware of the road condition.

    Around 150years back there were only bullock cart's and no road accidents and people were happily living for 100years. These vehicles have reduced human life expectancy to 30 years. In coming days many organ donors but will not be enough recipients.
