Bhatkal, Mar 27: Four persons including an officer were killed after the car in which they were travelling rammed into a tree near Kiravatti village in Yellapur taluk on Saturday March 26.
The deceased have been identified as Dattatray A Bansod, commissioner of Maharashtra State Information Commission in Amravati, his wife Alka Dattatray, son Pankaj and driver Rahul, also from Amravati.
The couple's daughter Sneha who was also in the car sustained serious injuries and was taken to Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) hospital in Hubballi and then shifted to SMD Hospital in Dharwad on Sunday March 27. Her condition is said to be critical.
It is learnt that the family was travelling in a Swift car from Kumta to Maharashtra via Hubballi when the driver reportedly lost control of the car and rammed into a roadside tree. The impact was such that Dattatray and driver Rahul were killed on the spot, while Alka breathed her last on the way to hospital and Pankaj passed away a little later in the hospital.
Uttar Kannada SP Onshi Krishna visited Yellapur hospital and gathered information about the accident. Yellapur MLA Shivaram Hebbar also visited the hospital.
A case has been registered in Yellapur police station.
