Puttur, Apr 1: The police have arrested an accused in connection to the shootout at Rajdhani Jewellers located in CPC Plaza here on October 6, 2015.
The accused has been identified as Abdul Asir (21) from Uppala, Kasargod.
Two unidentified men had come in a bike on October 6 evening and opened two rounds of fire at the jewellery store owned by Tanaaz. No one was injured in the incident. In his complaint, Tanaaz, who hails from Sangli, had mentioned that the firing incident was an attempt to kill him or his staff out of some grudge.
It is learnt that on April 1, an anonymous caller phoned police SI Mahesh Prasad and informed that a youth clad in a light blue jeans and red and blue t-shirt was moving about suspiciously near Kombettu Junior College, and that he had concealed some object inside his jerkin. Acting on the tip-off, SI Prasad and team rushed to the spot and caught hold of the youth.
The police found an unlicenced revolver in his possession. During questioning, Asir revealed that he had planned to catch a train to Bengaluru after visiting a friend in Puttur.
The police then arrested him and seized the revolver.
On further investigation, the police learnt that he was involved in the shootout at Rajdhani Jewellers on October 6. Sources said that he is also an aide of Uppala-based underworld element Kalia Rafiq. The police had already found that Kalia Rafiq was involved in the incident.
Asir was produced in court and sent to judicial custody.
