Kundapur, Oct 5: Gandhi Jayanti was observed in the Bhandarkar’s College here recently.
Speaking on the occasion A G Kodgi, chairman of the state finance commission said that Mahatma Gandhi was an enlightened person. With his enlightenment he shook the British imperial foundation in India. He was the foremost leader among those who made the supreme sacrifice, not only in the fight for Indian freedom but also in the struggle for communal amity and understanding.
In post-Independence India it was therefore one's bounden duty to follow him and be his worthy inheritors of truth and non-violence, he added.
Tarsi Parameshwar Hebbar, a freedom fighter was felicitated on the occasion. He recalled his experiences of those days of freedom fighting. He thanked the organizers for their honor.
At the end prizes were distributed to the winners in the taluk level competition for drawing Gandhi’s picture.
