Mangalore, Oct 6: St Agnes college campus was abuzz with the dazling dance perfomances of students on Saturday October 6 morning.  The Contemporary Dance competition organized as part of Agno Fest 07 kept their audience glued to their seat to the end.

About Contemporary Dance:

Contemporary dance is the use of trained bodies, along with the language of Indian dance and music to explore the inner reaches of the human mind, to chase the shadows of reality and illusion, and to encompass themes and ideas that strike more directly at the heart of today’s audience. Moving bodies, moving souls is the essence of the contemporary dance.

Contemporary dance can be conceived as a new way of thinking about today, a form of expression through movement that process memory, experience and imagination. The emphasis of contemporary dance is on originality, innovation, creativity, inter-disciplinary and excitement. It goes beyond the narrative form of expression and becomes a total sensorial experience. It truly represents the globalized ethos of today, thriving on cultural exchange, breaking barriers of language and yet projecting a sense of the unique culture of region on to a world audience.

The rules of the noopura were as follows:

  • A team should consist 6-7 members
  • Time allotted 4+1 minute
  • Theme for noopura could be of their own choice
  • Criteria for judgment were theme, costumes, choreography, coordination and expression.

A total of 12 teams participated in the event.
