Mangaluru: Groupism within Congress govt affecting governance: KPCC member Masood

Mangaluru, Apr 10: "The Congress party has not been able to give good governance in the state as there are three conflicting groups within the state government," said Mohammed Masood, former MLC and KPCC member.

He was addressing the Congress leaders and workers during the party's monthly meeting and felicitation programme for mayor Harinath at the district Congress office here on Sunday April 10.

Without elaborating on which groups the three were, Masood further said, "There are three groups in the government due to which the government is not functioning efficiently. Today there is no respect for senior leaders in the party. Even though Janardhan Poojary lost elections four times despite his people-friendly programmes like loan mela and making the tiller the owner of the field, the party came to power. The leaders of the party have kept him at a distance with no position in the party.

"The main reason for the decline in the party's popularity is the increasing number of middlemen. Because of them the workers and public are not able to meet the leaders. Hence, even the leaders are not able to respond to the people's problems. The middlemen have to be kept aside for the efficient functioning of the party," he opined.

"There are many issues in the MCC today. The main reason is that MCC engineers and other officials are not responding to people's woes. I call upon the party workers to work with the people for their sake and pressure the officials to strive for development," he urged.

"I appeal to the mayor not to misuse his power. You (Harinath) are one among the few senior leaders who have toiled hard for the party from many decades. Many people opposed your candidature for the mayor's post while supporting their own candidates. Do not keep them away. Do not give scope for different groups within the city Congress unit. Give justice to people," Masood said.

Spokesperson of the district Congress and corporator A C Vinayaraj said, "By appointing former CM Yeddyurappa as the state party president, BJP has lost its credibility and also the moral right to speak on corruption. All the Congress party workers must go to every house and remind people of the corruption during Yeddyurappa's tenure as chief minister. We are left with only one-and-a-half years for the legislative Assembly elections, so it is time to start preparing.

"Respond to the needs to the people irrespective of the party. Then they will be convinced about our credibility," he added.

Delay

Even though the felicitation was scheduled for 10:30 am, it took place after noon after the arrival of mayor Harinath. When questioned about the delay, the mayor said that he had to attend a programme pertaining to the development of the city. "They do not listen to me even if I say no to the felicitation. I requested them not to hold the felicitation programme as development works get curtailed. Just for the sake of the party workers I have to come and accepted this honour," he said.

He was felicitated by Mangaluru South block Congress president Balakrishna Shetty on behalf of all the party workers in the block.

AICC member PV Mohan, fomer deputy mayor Kavita Vasu, corporators Asha D'silva, Abdul Rauf, Appi, Prakash Salian and others were present.

Very unfortunate that simple person like janardhana poojary being sidelined without giving him proper posting considering his selfless service. I don't understand why people mock JP without knowing his contributions. Let him play his politics which is his right, but once occupying public office he did yeomen service to India. Why mock such a towering personality? have we ever grown to his stature to mock him? Feel sick of those who disrespect JP. he could've easily been in Rajya sabha but don't know why he didn't opt for it.

South canara belt is fully polarised bcz of communal issues since 1992 thanks to emergence of new brand of politics and therefore winning MP elections won't be easy. For congress it will never be easy bcz any dummy candidate fielded from bjp is sure to win. New politics must be discovered by congress to win MP seats here in coastal region. AAP really can try by their anti corruption wave but rigid supporters of Congress n bjp may not switch easily to new political ideas. People like laalu mulayam etc gets elected many times over the years despite not delivering on promises bcz of rigid support from constituency voters. To judge a person one need not have to wait long, just notice zeal n intent n vision of the person.

Gabriel,I too feel sorry for Poojari. However admittedly he dug his own grave . Its evident, JP lacks leadership qualities and acumen. His strategies are outdated , probably would have worked in the 70s but not now, were every move is monitored with a swipe of a finger. Gen Public are more educated. Have you heard any of his speeches prior election in 2014. It was disgusting, lacked diplomacy & political sportsmanship. Instead of focusing on agendas, developments, addressing concerns he was questioning Modis marital status. To add to that he openly challenged Modi to contest against him in DK. The result he lost to Kateel by a lac, thus making a fool of himself. Now he is reduced to symbol of mockery, the press confernce he calls calls for every week, has lost its significance and nobody takes him seriously. Any fool would say that he is just trying to be in news. Net- Net what is required is a total revamp in Cong leadership for revival. Or else the road does not look that rosy.

Alphonsoji, most of ur observations true but defer at one point - which is that his credentials are impeccable in his initial political career that has earned him status of statesman and hence he cud get ticket for MP seat despite heavy losses. U r rt that he shud have changed himself politically to win elections. But his contribution as a mentor to many congressmen can't be ignored. As Sachin decided when to quit professional life, same stands true for JP in congress party. JP has proved to be tallest congress leader from karnataka ... much highly respected than sm krishna moly Oscar etc. I wonder how he missed CM chair of karnataka, he thoroughly deserved it. When people like dharam Singh become cm, it is a travesty n paradox. Now that he is getting old we can't mock him. Mark my words - god forbid when JP leaves earthly journey many mourners( critics in particular ) will just bluff. He may loose elections hundred times but that can't change the MAN JP or discount his contributions. Even if nalinji wins ten times as MP he can't remain in people's memory as JP did. Hope nalinji becomes FM of India soon

Groupism within congress government affecting governance as stated by KPCC member Masood is their internal problem and has to sorted out within themselves rather than going to press meet or any other meet. Groupism, disappointments etc are part and parcel of the politics. One has to taste. But one should try to pacify the members, compromise in certain areas,if required and find an amicable solution.Besides congress blaming BJP and vice versa is not the good sign of healthy politics. In fact both BJP and Congress are the two faces of the same coin.Their main agenda is to grab the power to loot the country/state by fooling the public. No other alternative party which can give befitting reply to both these parties at this moment. As far as development is concerned, poor and middle class people have to feel the brunt of their illogical policies adopted by these parties. No party or an individual is ready to wipe the tears of poor people except filling their own pocket. The classic example of mismanagement is the spiraling prices of essential commodities required at each and every household. No control on it.Benefits, lots of schemes are announced in the budget and by the respective governments but in real sense, those are all in papers only and poor people can hardly enjoy all those facilities because of corrupt governance.Stop blame game and concentrate on developmental projects and welfare of the common people especially women, children, age old, retired people by providing them the government facilities. In the present scenario,we can hardly find any such sincere, honest political leader, who can fight for the rights of the common, poor people.

Well said masood sir. Hope when u were an mlc there was no backstabbing by way of groupism n internal fights for grabbing power to the extent of helping bjp candidates defeat congress own candidates. Whenever a credible candidate fielded, then the Congress culture is to pull them down by playing crook type politics that will eventually benefit bjp. That's why congress is divided into many factions n loosing ground in India. People lost interest in dirty politics of Congress.

Bjp looks like more organised n plans very well to win election with every member of bjp working for success of their official candidate. Person is given enough time to prepare roadmap. Look at how yedyurappa was appointed to state bjp head post without consulting shetter eeshu joshi etc. look at how modi gave smriti Irani the top post like hrd minister. Look at how sadanandaji demoted to lesser post for non performance. It was really admiring move bcz modi believed iraniji despite she is not having experience in politics. That's how congress shud decide if they want to do wel. Pick up able people and give them responsibility (age no bar ) and throw out those who always behave like crab and scorpion, and tries to show off in front of public but do nothing. Congress leadership must be able to figure out who is doing what behind the scene. There are many people in every party who are round the clock working hard to bring down their own partymen for selfish gains. Such people instead of rewards must be shown a proper place. Indian voters are watching every politician wit doubt n suspicion After getting fooled time and again.
