Congress won't be celebrating after Panama Papers probe report: Jaitley

Kolkata, April 10 (IANS): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday said the Congress "will not have many reasons to celebrate" after the details of the multi-agency probe into the 'Panama Papers' expose come out.

"There is a very impartial probe going on and it is a multi-agency probe. When the details of the probe come out, the Congress will not have many reasons to celebrate," Jaitley said here.

Seeking a Supreme Court-monitored probe, the Congress has demanded that the finance minister recuse himself in order to ensure a free and fair investigation.

Asked how he would maintain impartiality in the probe, Jaitley said: "I am not able to understand their (Congress) argument."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ordered a multi-agency probe into the Panama Papers expose by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, which found over 500 Indians had alleged offshore links in the tax haven.
