Karkala, Apr 11: K R Rafiya from Sri Lanka, who is employed at Kuwait, and who had come here during second week of January this year in search of her husband, Yousuf, had succeeded in extracting confession from Yousuf, who was initially hesitant, that he had indeed married her when in Kuwait. After Yousuf promised in writing in the presence of police to look after both Rafiya and the lady he had married after returning here, well, Rafiya had gone back to Kuwait based on this promise, to resume work as beautician.
The police here recently got a call from Rafiya who stated that her husband had cheated her, by not coming to Kuwait as promised earlier. In the meanwhile, Yousuf, it is found, has gone missing from his house at Jodukatte Miyar.
Syed Mubeen Yousuf, Rafiya had claimed, married her when he was working for a oil company in Kuwait. He had lived with her for a year, before returning to his native place in the guise of attending sister's marriage. He had married another girl at this native place during that visit and settled here permanently thereafter.
Rafiya came to the town during January second week this year, met the police, accused Yousuf of marrying another lady without informing her, and wanted to register case of fraud. The police had summoned Yousuf to the station, and after Yousuf committed in writing to look after both his wives properly, Rafiya withdrew the case and returned to Kuwait.
As Yousuf failed to come to Kuwait as promised, Rafiya contacted the police here over phone and complained that he had cheated her. Rafiya, who has made lot of enquiries about the whereabouts of her husband, suspects that his family members must have encouraged him to shift his home to somewhere else. She is also said to be pooling information whether he had escaped to a foreign country or hiding somewhere in India.
