New Delhi, April 17 (IANS): The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government on Sunday stepped up its attack on the RSS and BJP for trying to sabotage the odd-even traffic scheme and sought Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung's intervention in the matter.

The Aam Aadmi Party government urged Jung to direct the Delhi Police to ensure safety of those auto-taxi drivers who would not participate in strike call on Monday.

“In last two days I met representatives of several auto-taxi unions in Delhi which do not want to participate in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP-sponsored strike. But they expressed apprehension of violence and vandalism if they stay away from the strike,” Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai said in a letter to Jung.

The Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) -affiliated autorickshaw and taxi union of Delhi on Friday announced strike on Monday, demanding "uniform charges" for cab operators like Ola and Uber and their compliance with the Delhi government rules on fares.

Observing that the auto-taxi unions who are against Monday's strike have also expressed apprehension that the agitation would not be in their interest, Rai requested the lt. governor “to direct Delhi Police to issue necessary directions for the safety of auto-taxi drivers and to avoid any untoward incident during odd-even traffic scheme”.

On Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had accused the Rashtirya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to "fail" his government's odd-even traffic scheme saying even during its first phase in January, the RSS and the BJP had orchestrated the strike by government officers.

The Delhi government on Friday kicked off the second phase of its odd-even scheme in the national capital. The odd-even vehicle movement plan for four-wheelers will continue till April 30 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. except on Sundays.
