Bengaluru, Apr 19: Former state Lokayukta, Justice Y Bhaskar Rao, who was forced to resign after having been accused of a scandal involving extortion of money by his close ones from people by threatening them of Lokayukta raids, is learnt to have written recently to the state government seeking retirement benefits.

The letter written by justice Rao reached the government through the Lokayukta registrar. Although the letter was dated March 1, the issue came to light with inordinate delay. Sources however, added that the government has not reacted to this letter.

As per law, those who retire as Lokayukta are eligible for certain retirement benefits in the form of pension, medical aid, and other facilities. Facilities like security staff, free telephone calls and other allowances are also payable to the retired Lokayukta, it is said.

Justice Rao, who joined as Lokayukta on February 14, 2013, had resigned on December 7, 2015, after his son, Ashwin Rao, was arrested in connection with a scandal. He served for two years and ten months as the state Lokayukta. During his period, several persons including his son, Ashwin Rao, Syed Ruiaz and others were accused of fleecing crores of rupees from government officials by threatening them of subjecting them to Lokayukta raids.
