Udupi, Apr 22: "Udupi district has been able to retain the top spot in rendering Atalji Janasnehi services," announced deputy commissioner R Vishal while presenting the annual report of the revenue department at the DC's office in Rajathadri, Manipal here on Friday April 22. Last year too, the district had topped the state in rendering services through Atalji Janasnehi centres.
"Nearly 9,451 petitions have been cleared by the DC office till March 2016. In previous year, as many as 3,269 files were cleared regarding problems of various departments, except during the election period, and 4,554 files were reviewed.
"In total, 1,855 cases were sorted out related to arbitration, RTO and other court cases. Each day, five cases were attended by following three steps namely notice, response and actual disposal," the DC said.
The number of files cleared from April 2015 to March 31, 2016 is 14,575 which were related to PLO files, court cases and other department cases. The DC cleared 52 files every day with three reviews.
The DC received 1,584 new petitions on revenue appeals, arbitration, RTO and others. There were 441 pending files earlier and 170 files which were received after March 15 this year are pending clearance. These files will be attended to by this June, the DC said.
"The district stood first in Sakala services in the state for the month of November 2015. But in the final rankings of Sakala, the district came second in the state,” he said.
DC R Vishal said that he will bring uniformity in the criteria relating to Sakala. "The department started an amendment drive during Revenue Adalats. The district authority has approved 121.21 acres of land for various purposes and reserved 307.69 acres for various government purposes," he said.
"The district has enough funds to manage natural calamities in the coastal area. Approximately Rs 10 crores of development work has been done in the previous year and the DC office will try to attain Rs 32 crore worth of development work in the next year."
"There is a shortage of surveyors in the district and we have called applications for 66 posts. If these posts are filled, the pending work can be completed within a month," Vishal said.
He also informed that there is no shortage of funds to tackle drinking water scarcity in the district.
Kusumadhara, survey department informed that the team of TAPMI has taken up the responsibility of re-surveying and updating of land records. The 100-year-old RTC documents will be digitized and in sometime everyone will get maps online.
Informing about the sand mining block, DC said, "20 out of 23 sand blocks will be opened for traditional sand mining in the initial stage from April 23. Nearly 4,03,000 metric tonnes of sand is available in the district and the first priority will be given to local people."
