Bengaluru, Apr 25 (DHNS): Former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Pundalika Halambi, 64, died in a hospital in the early hours of Sunday. Halambi had a cardiac problem and also had a kidney failure and died at Shankara Hospital in the city at 3.45 am.
According to his family members, Halambi was looking for a kidney transplant but was advised against any surgery by doctors since he had a cardiac problem.
Halambi was from Kundapur taluk in Udupi district and had served as the chief co-ordinator in the publicity wing of Bangalore University. Known for his love for the language, he had constituted the Kannada Sangha in the university. He also served as president of the Bangalore University Non-teaching Staff Association for 20 years.
Later, he took charge as the 24th president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat. He was also the first president of the Akhila Karnataka Kannada Madhyama Vidyarthi Sammelana and the vice-president of the Kannada Jagruthi Parishat.
His mortal remains were kept at Kannada Sahitya Parishat for people to pay their last respects. He was cremated at the T R Mills crematorium. He is survived by wife and two sons.
