Udupi, May 1: Urban development and district in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake inaugurated the popular Jumbo Circus show at Royal Gardens here on Saturday, April 30.
Addressing the gathering, Sorake said, "The circus will entertain the public, and as summer vacation is on, children will enjoy the amusement. I am sure people will always promote such creativity and talent. I wish the show good luck."
MLA Pramod Madhwaraj and parliament secretary to the revenue minister, Dr Rathnakar Shetty, proprietor, Royal Gardens, Udupi, K M Sachindranath, promoter, Sri Hari, media coordinator and artistes Antony, Khalid were present on the occasion.
Under the leadership of M V Shankar, this circus was started on October 2, 1977 at Dhanpur, Bihar. Since then, Jumbo circus has continued to be the most popular show ever in the history of of Indian circus. It is Jumbo circus that introduced Russian artistes to the Indian audience.
Jumbo circus is the largest full-fledged circus in India which has kept up its momentum in entertaining and winning appreciation from Indian audience from past four decades.
Human pyramid, Limbo dance, fire tricks, pole acrobatics are specialties of the show. Shoulder stand cycle show, double saree acrobat, drinking loose wire, roller acrobat and fish act will be performed for the first time.
Animals like horses, camels, dogs (Pomeranian and Dalmatians) and rare birds like scarlet macaws, blue and yellow macaws, Moluccan cockatoo and more can be seen performing balancing and cart acts.
Eight enthusiastic youths have arrived from Africa and Manipur. They are Anthony Maxmillion Nichimbi, Salma Magasanga Macamba, Moulaidi Abassi Niyikondo, Khalid Ramdhan Gemba, Moses Joseph Domba, Rajabu Abdulla Mueshi, Omari Alai Omari, and Athumani Ibrahim Masave. The creative team performs gymnastics acts in the show.
The circus will go on for a month.
