Bengaluru, May 4: The kingpin of PU paper leakage scam Shivakumaraiah alias Guruji was nabbed at last on Tuesday, May 2 in city. It is now revealed that his craze for women helped the CID police to nab him. He had several girlfriends and was accustomed to posh living. He had gone into hiding after the leakage of question papers and had come to meet his girlfriends in Bengaluru when he was apprehended.
Shivakumaraiah, a former lecturer, had made selling of question papers before the examination dates as his main business for many years.
Shivakumaraiah had taken shelter in an under- construction building of his acquaintance when CID spread a net and arrested him. Some of his accomplices are still at large. He is in ten days CID custody as per orders from the court.
He was absconding after locking his house at Nandini Layout in city and was in touch with his accomplices using code words and used to respond to telephone calls only when code words such as 'Tomato 150' were uttered by the caller. He used to communicate by using code words 'Sauthekai', 'Thondekai' etc.
His girlfriends in Bengaluru and elsewhere in the state were aged between 16 and 40 years. He also used to address them through code words. Most of his girlfriends were married. He had accompanied a 35 years old girlfriend to Tannuru in Gubbi taluk and introduced her as his wife. He had kept the names of important cities in the country such as Nagpur, Bombay, and Darjeeling to his girlfriends. He never used their real names. He had named the girl who helped nab him as Nagpur.
An investigation into his call records showed that he had used the word 'Nagpur' several times in the conversation.
Investigations have revealed that he owns property worth Rs 4 crores. Some police sources said Shivakumaraiah may not be the real kingpin, but only an executor and there is a possibility that other big people are involved.
