Denied water access, Dalit man digs own well for wife in M'rashtra

Nagpur, May 9 (PTI) : Anguished over being denied access to water by upper caste people, a Dalit labourer from Maharashtra’s drought-hit Vidarbha, toiled for hours to dig his own well.

The wife of Bapurao Tajne, a resident of Kolambeshwar village in Malegaon taluka, Washim district, was not allowed to fetch water from a well by villagers.

In a bid to take his revenge on a social milieu which still discriminates large sections of people, Tajne took it upon himself to dig a well in his village, and is quenching the thirst of the entire Dalit population of the area now. He finished the digging in mere 40 days and was pleasantly surprised to find water.

Beaming with confidence, a seemingly content Tajne said that he felt fortunate to have discovered abundantly available ground water after his hard work. “I was ridiculed by my family among others, but I was determined,” Tajne said.

The news soon reached the authorities, following which Washim district administration officiated tahsildar Kranti Dombe to visit the village. Hailing Tajne’s act, the district administration felicitated him for being “a face of determination and strong will power”, the tahsildar said.

When asked if any government aid would be provided to Tajne, Dombe said there was no such proposal as of now.

However, she said the government has taken note of the Dalit man’s extraordinary achievement. On whether action has been initiated against the villagers who did not let the labourer’s wife draw water, in view of the incident attracting punitive provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Dombe said the well in question was not identified yet nor were the villagers who stopped the woman.

@Rakesh, Pune: Forget the past mate, yu can't change it now. You live in the same state at PRESENT and it is the BJP which is ruling that state NOW. Can you explain me why Dalit women not allowed to fetch water from other well?? What type of nationalism you and your RSS which is also having their headquarters there are preaching. Is it Hindu Samajotsav for a day to shout "Hindugalu ella onde" and then goes back to that vedic period of untouchability? I remember your comments about the tit for tat visa(with China) which went TUSS days after.

In the news from a paper in Kerala yesterday, one Muslim young man was imprisoned for three years in Gujarat for carrying beef at the holy land of the holy man of India. But, Gujarat is exporting plenty of beef.

The fault finding with the Congress is the main accomplishment of the current Government, nothing else.

Well is better than pot full of water. This man did magic to please his wife. Many in drought hit areas need to be inspired by his hard work to chase away the prevailing drought situation.

Height of intolerance (cast, creed & religion)
They have built tallest sculpture/statue of Babasaheb, Dr. Ambedkar, a politician and social reformer who inspired the Dalit Buddhist movement and campaigned against social discrimination against Untouchables (Dalits).
‘PM Narendra Modi Lays Foundation Stone of Ambedkar Memorial in Mumbai’
In spite of all such movements’ for upper class people, dalits still remain as untouchables. I wish Maharashtra CM or PM would take interest in the matter and send a message to those who involved to change their attitude. After all they also are human beings. And upper-class people are not having special blood.

This is one last problem still we face in our Great Hindu Religion at some places only!!!! There is no point in blaming others for conversion at large or conversion after fake marriages as long Hindus continue with this practice!!!!

This man who dug Well proved, where there is a will, there is Way.
True Love for family is driving force. Hardships didn't come on the way.
There are loving and caring men in the society but hardly anybody recognize and appreciates, but quick to DEMONIZE even in religious places.
Like in the case of Keenan - Reuban, who died fighting the armed hooligans, molested their female friends, was there much appreciation from fairer sex in this forum?
Some just want to create hatred, where God sowed Love.

Its not the current government denied access to water, but the system which is still being practiced at some remote places. First clear your eyes and then see it through as a common man, only congress and its slaves see it politically.

It's totally wrong to stop people from using water. Where there is a will there is a way. This gentleman proved right. We already seen how a person named manjhi made way thru mountains alone..for more than twenty years.
God given us five main things which is for all.. Land, Sky, Water, Wind, Fire.
Most of it UPA is successful to prove it right. It used Adarsh/coal Gotala...in land. 2G gotala in sky. Siachai Gotala in Water.
