Three policemen die in Mogadishu car bombing


Mogadishu, May 9 (IANS): Three police officers were killed on Monday when a car bomb exploded at the entrance to the traffic police headquarters in this Somalian capital.

Government spokesman Abdifitah Halane said one gunman was shot down by police after he got out of the car which hit the gate. Scores of others were also injured in the bomb attack, Xinhua news agency reported.

"The gunmen tried to get inside the police headquarters with explosives. But the police shot and killed one of the gunmen as he got out of the car. Three officers were killed," Halane said.

Residents at Shangani district, where the incident happened, said they heard explosions and gunshots.

"I saw a vehicle driving very fast from the scene heading to a hospital. The explosion was huge," said resident Ibrahim Nor.
