Mangaluru, May 9: Referring to the media reports which claimed that Vishwanath Bhat had been arrested, Mangaluru city police commissioner M Chandrasekhar said that legal action will be taken against the concerned media agencies.
The commissioner was addressing the media persons at his office after accepting the memorandum from the leaders of the GSB community on Monday May 8.
Vishwanath Bhat is allegedly an aide of absconding Naresh Shenoy, an accused in the Vinayaka Baliga murder case.
"It is the clear example of irresponsible reporting. Vishwanath Bhat, who is attached to the Kashi Math, was called to the police station for the sake of questioning. But it was reported that he had been arrested in relation to the Vinayak Baliga murder case. Because of this, the leaders of the GSB community have expressed their concern and have sought the action against the media who reported this," commissioner said.
"I appeal to all the media that while reporting about any investigation, please verify the details from the concerned officials and carry the reports," he added.
When asked about what action will be taken against the media, he said that further move will be taken after seeking legal advice.
When asked about the delay in the arrest of Naresh Shenoy, the commissioner said that Shenoy has been changing his locations in other states of India due to which tracing him has been difficult. "He has not fled from the country. He will be arrested soon." said the commissioner.
