Kundapur, May 11: A father, who jumped into the lake to save his two young sons who had accidentally fallen in the pond while playing near it, has himself drowned and died with the children.
The tragic incident occurred at Airabailu, Ulloor near Siddapur in Kundapur taluk on Wednesday afternoon, May 11.
Raghavendra Kini (35) from Airabailu, Ulloor and his sons Prakash (13) and Yogish (12) are the persons who met the watery grave.
Raghavendra Kini was staying with his wife, grandfather, uncle and family. Besides being in agriculture, he was working as a cook. Raghavendra Kini couple had Prakash and Yogish, two sons. Both of them were studying in Ulloor government school. Being summer vacation, the two boys playing with other two children came near the pond.
While walking on a piece of wood, Prakash lost balance and fell in the water. Yogish immediately got into water to save Prakash. While both of them were getting drowned, another boy who saw both of them getting drowned screamed. Raghavendra Kini who was in the house came running after hearing the scream and jumped in the pond to save his children. As the lake was deep, all three died by drowning.
The pond within the areca plantation does not have fencing. Besides that the pond is filled with silt mixed water, say the locals.
Raghavendra Kini was leading in social activities in the area. Prakash was a student of 7th standard while Yogish was a 6th standard student. They were both good in studies and other activities.
Kundapur DySP Manjunath Shetty, Circle inspector Diwaker P M, Shankaranarayana station SI Sunil Kumar, Vidhana Parishat member Kota Srinivasa Poojary, Byndoor BJP president Sukumar Shetty, member Taranatha Shetty and others visited the place.
The dead bodies of the deceased have been sent to the local government hospital for post-mortem. A case stands registered at Shankaranarayana police station.
