Mysuru, May 15: In an incident which has brought to the fore recklessness of hospital staff, the surgeon who was to perform family planning operation on a woman cut off her liver instead. This happened at Cheluvamba Hospital in the city, which has hogged limelight sometime back, after a number of pregnant and purpural women had died there within a short period. The woman is now battling for her life.
Umapathi, working as junior engineer in Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company here, had admitted his wife, Roopashree (25) for family planning operation into the said hospital on May 11. She was made to wait in the operation room from morning to afternoon on May 13. The doctors had shifted her back to the ward in the afternoon, after claiming that she could not be operated upon because of low blood pressure.
In a short while thereafter, Roopashree complained of acute pail in the abdominal region. Her relatives then got to know that she had undergone surgery. Umapathi, who grew suspicious, immediately got her admitted into Apollo Hospital here. The doctors there revealed that Roopashree’s liver had been snipped off by the doctors of Cheluvamba Hospital.
