Mangaluru, May 27: Moodbidri police on Wednesday night arrested Sumith Raj Daregudde the leader of Moodbidri Bajrang Dal. He has since been sent to judicial custody. He was apprehended for having an association with the persons caught in an Omni vehicle last week hatching a conspiracy to murder.
Sumith Raj is a resident of Daregudde and was allegedly involved in the unrest which took place following the death of Prashanth Poojary. He is facing many charges including on the dispute about fish selling at Gantalkatte and assault cases related to illegal cattle trafficking. He is the main accused in these cases.
CCB inspector Valentine D’Souza and his team had arrested Nataraj (25), Raviraj (29) from Kunjathabail and Subhash from Kavoor at Swaraj Maidan at Moodbidri last Wednesday . A Maruti Omni, 2 machetes and a dagger were seized from the suspects. It was revealed that on the instructions from Bombay Kiran Shetty of Padumarpadu, they were planning to eliminate someone in Moodbidri.
It was said that the murder conspiracy was hatched by these people to disrupt peace by killing a person from a different community. But some also said that Sumith Raj’s differences with other leaders of Bajrang Dal were the reasons for these people to hatch the conspiracy. A clear picture has not emerged yet.
Sujith Shetty, from Kallabettu who is said to be part of this gang, is absconding.
Meanwhile arrested Sumith Raj has been sent to judicial custody.
