Puttur, May 29: In an incident which occurred in Nekkilady village in the taluk at around midnight on Friday May 27, a couple jumped into a well after fighting tooth and nail over family issues. However, at the end, the husband died and the wife survived the scary incident.
Prakash Naik (32), working as lecturer of the women's college at Jadekallu in Nekkilady near Uppinangady, lost his life in this incident. His wife, Ashashree (26), who works as assistant manager in a cooperative society at Puttur, saved herself by holding on to the pipe of the pump set after jumping into the well.
Locals said that Prakash was a bit short-tempered and this gave rise to frequent fights between the couple. Fight erupted between them on Friday too, and cellphones of both of them were found in damaged condition in their house. After the fight aggravated, both jumped into well, but Asha survived.
Neighbours who saw Ashashree clinging on to the pipe, arranged to bring her out of the well unharmed. A case about the incident was filed in Uppinangady police station and investigation was taken up.
