Doha, May 30: In the first Mohamed Shamlan Cricket Tournament 2016 sponsored by Qatar Lubricants Company, QALCO managed to defeat Bin Yousef Cargo by 14 runs. The tournament consisted of Division I's top 8 teams competing on a knockout basis. The game was played at MIC Sports Complex - Umm Mesaieed.
The tournament was dedicated to the late Mohammed Shamlan as a remembrance of his immense contribution to the development of local cricket in Qatar.
Fawad Rana, managing director of Qatar Lubricants Co (QALCO) could not be present at the thrilling finals due to other commitments. Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary, operation director of QALCO was the chief guest and Sudhir Pangal administrative manager was the guest of honour along with Salim Qazi.
Winning the toss and electing to bat was a good decision by QALCO. They totaled a massive 93 runs in the allotted 15 overs.
QALCO had a bad start and lost their 6 wickets for only 39 runs in the first six overs. Thereafter, the game witnessed some lusty hitting by Hilmy the top scorer who scored 26 runs with 3 sixes and Chamara 13 runs with a six took QALCO for 93 runs.
Sajith and Ghulam took 2 wickets each from Bin Yousef Cargo, Sudhir, Malik and Abbas took a wicket each.
In reply Bin Yousef started slowly and could manage just 20 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the first six overs. The first over was bowled by Captain Shahid Iqbal and he delivered just 4 runs in his over. In 10 overs Bin Yousef were 31 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. However Abbas was outstanding and was the top scorer from Bin Yousef with 33 runs including 3 sixes and a boundary. No other player from Bin Yousef posted a double figure.
Jonty took 2 wickets from QALCO, Ruwan, Ifzal, Hilmy took a wicket each.

At the well attended prize distribution ceremony, prizes were given away by chief guest Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary and guest of honour Sudhir Pangal.
The organizers arranged complimentary refreshments, tea and lucky draw for all the spectators.
