Bantwal, Jun 14: Poovappa Poojary (45) from Kuppila village, who was working as watchman for
Vaidyanath Garage at Thumbay Ramalkatte was charred alive in his sleep on the night of Sunday June 12.

No one came to know about the incident. Wife of the deceased, who brought breakfast for her husband, and stay back at the garage on Sundays, saw his charred body after opening the garage door. She conveyed the information to people in the neighbourhood thereafter.

The deceased worked as night watchman at the garage since the last five years. His body was found to be in sleeping position with his arms folded behind his head. Apparently, he never woke up even when fire engulfed the entire building. Many believe that he would have died earlier after inhaling thick smoke and suffocating. Otherwise there is no explanation why he did not make any effort to save himself.

A case about the incident was registered at the rural police station here. Police circle inspector, K U Belliappa, and sub-inspector, Rakshit, visited the spot and undertook a detailed inspection. After postmortem, the body was released to the family members.
