Shivamogga, Jun 30: Relating to defamatory statement made by her against former state minister, Hartalu Halappa, a court in Sorab in the district served notice on state Kannada and culture minister, Umashree. Umashree has been asked to appear in the court on July 20 in connection with the said case.

Judge of the JMFC court, Raghavendra Shettigar, who took up the case on Wednesday June 29,  ordered issuance of notice to the minister, asking her to personally appear in the court on July 20 and  record her statement.

Addressing a public function at Tumakuru in 2014, Umashree had allegedly termed Halappa a rapist who had raped the wife of his friend.

Halappa, who contended that the above allegation has not been proved anywhere, had also claimed that he had been defamed because of this baseless allegation. Halappa is being represented by senior lawyer from the tauk, V P Khare.
